Jimmy Dinh, Oakland
High School, Oakland
Jimmy
has volunteered over 200 hours in the community with the KIWIN’s service club and other community organizations. Jimmy has inspired his fellow students to become involved in the community through
other ethnic organizations such as Filipinos for Affirmative Action and Latinos Unidos.
Jimmy works over 20 hours a week and also finds time to teach other young people karate each week. Jimmy plans on attending University of California,
Berkeley to major in Molecular and Cell Biology and minor
in Spanish.
Lea Gee-Tong, Marin Academy, San Rafael
Lea is a Trustee on the Board of Trustees for the Golden Gate Planned Parenthood fully participating in budget and
oversight discussions. She is also a Youth Member of the governing Board of the
Gay-Straight Alliance Network as well as its Statewide Advocacy Council Member meeting with legislators and school board officials
to discuss curriculum development and legislative issues as they pertain to LGBT youth.
Lea is also an accomplished flute, piccolo and saxophone player. Lea plans on attending Stanford University and majoring in Human Biology.
Betty Kwan, De Anza High School,
Richmond
Betty
is the recipient of the KPAA Inspiration Award. Betty has been the president
of her school’s chapter of BuildOn for three years. BuildOn is a unique
after school program for high school students who provide service in their own community and in developing countries. Betty has led other community service efforts while working up to 20 hours a week
for the past two years. Betty plans on attending University
of California, Davis
and majoring in Wildlife Conservation with a minor in International Relations.
Spencer Louie, San Mateo High School,
San Mateo
Spencer is
the recipient of the Susan Chan-Lim Memorial Award. He is the founder of his
school’s American Cancer Society chapter, Co-President of the Mock Trial team and a member of the Kaiser Permanente
Teen Board. He has attended the Craigslist Foundation Boot Camp for emerging
non-profit leaders and is a recipient of the Jefferson Award. Spencer plans on
attending University of California, Los Angeles.
Anqi Ran, Balboa High School, San Francisco
Anqi
has led multiple community service organizations at her school. As President
of her school’s Development Institute of Youth, Anqi organizes an after school tutoring and college information program. In addition, she led the development and showcasing of a musical show that raised
$3000 for the earthquake victims in China
last year. Despite being the only ESL student in her AP English Literature class
or on an East Coast College Field Trip, Anqi continually challenges herself to attain her goals. Anqi plans on attending University of Southern California’s Leventhal School of Accounting.
Xing Hua Wen, Oakland Technical High School, Oakland
Xing is an active member
of his school’s Interact club volunteering many hours over the years to serve his local community. In addition, he has volunteered for the Red Cross for their community service projects while working many
hours each week at his job. Xing will be attending the Jacob’s School of Engineering at University
of California, San Diego
and majoring in Computer Science.
